Deployment of CISF at canal delayed

Staff Reporter

The move is aimed at preventing tapping of water

  • Non-ayacut farmers in the Karnataka territory illegally tap the water
  • State Government yet to clear the proposal
  • CISF proposes to provide armed guard, fencing and notice board warning against breaching the canal

ANANTAPUR: The State Government proposal for deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel to prevent tapping of water from Tungabhadra Right High Level Canal (HLC) in Karnataka territory has failed to make much ground due to Karnataka's opposition to the proposal.

Political compulsions in Karnataka is learnt to be coming the way of the neighbouring State Government accepting the proposal, though the Tungabhadra Board has been pressing for the proposal for long. The Andhra Pradesh Government too softened its stand as the canal was breached only thrice this year so far.
