ANANTAPUR: The State Government addressed a letter to the Tungabhadra Board on Friday for allocation of additional 5 tmcft water to Tungabhadra Right High Level Canal in Andhra Pradesh from out of the State's share. This was informed to the Irrigation Advisory Board meeting held here on Saturday by Minister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments J.C. Diwakar Reddy. He stated that the water would be utilised for drinking water needs of the villages whose irrigation tanks were linked to Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir (PABR) Right Canal. Prinicipal Secretary of Irrigation C.V.S.K. Sharma had written to the Tungabhadra Board secretary to divert an additional 5 tmcft of water from the State's share to HLC, Mr. Reddy said. He said that 42 tanks linked to PABR Right Canal and Dharmavaram tank would be impounded with the additional allocation of 5 tmcft HLC water after storing in PABR. Superintending Engineer of HLC P. Somi Reddy, Anantapur MP A. Venkatarami Reddy, the Kadapa MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, district Collector Y.V. Anuradha and others were present at the meeting.
Water from Nov. 2
The ayacut of Tungabhadra Right High Level Canal (HLC) in Anantapur and Kadapa districts under the sub-systems of MPR South Canal, MPR North Canal, Tadipatri Branch Canal and Pulivendula Branch Canal will be given water from November 2. This was decided at the Irrigation Advisory Board meeting. While the main canals would get water on November 2, water would be let into the distributaries from November 6, Superintending Engineer of HLC P. Somi Reddy said. The proposal was accepted by the members after a detailed discussion.
