Dharmapuri: Collector M. Chandrasekaran has asked Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) officials to expedite the Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) from the Vaaniyar dam to nine panchayats in Pappireddipatti taluk at the earliest. Inspecting the ongoing works of the scheme at B. Mallapuram village here on Saturday, he said the scheme on implementation would benefit about 43,938 people in B. Mallapuram and 35 surrounding villages facing acute water scarcity. The TWAD has taken up the scheme at an outlay of Rs.2.87 crores. Water was already supplied from the four borewells in the Vaaniyar dam through pipelines to the villages of Menasi, Boodhanatham, Indira Colony, Marugalampatti Nagar and Nehru Nagar. Water tank As part of the scheme, a ground level water tank is being constructed at Paiyarnatham for supply of water to the villages of Paiyarnatham, Kadhiripuram, Kurinji Nagar, Muthumariamman Kovilur, P. Pallipatti, Lourdupuram, Janganahalli, Kumbarahalli, Kumbarahalli colony, Vasigoundanur, Thurinjipatti colony, Vijayanagaram Kottai, Vadasandayur, Thensandayur, Kuppanur, Kottayur, Nadur and Subramani Nagar. In addition overhead tanks were also being constructed in Molayanur Colony, Devarapalayam, Kottayur, Subramani Nagar and Vidiyal Nagar. Mr. Chandrasekaran said the scheme on implementation would fulfil a long-pending demand of the villagers of Bommidi, Mallapuram and Thurinjipatti for supply of protected drinking water.
