Dharmapuri: The Minister for Tourism, A. Miller visited flood-affected areas in Dharmapuri district on Saturday and distributed compensation of Rs.65, 000 to 25 persons. Mr. Miller said that 396 houses were completely damaged in incessant rain in Dharmapuri district. In addition around 350 acres of paddy and other crops were submerged in floodwaters. The total extent of damage to crops and other properties could be ascertained only after the floodwater recedes in all affected areas.
Water supply hit
The villages of Panchapalli, Maarandahalli and Athimutlu in Palacode and Pennagaram taluks were severely affected . Water supply to Dharmapuri was disrupted for three days following a break in the main pipeline to Dharmapuri Municipality. Crops in low-lying areas near the Panchapalli dam were also submerged. The district administration has taken up relief works in all flood-hit areas on a war-footing. A proposal has also been sent to the Government to undertake restoration of bridges, properties and highway roads in Dharmapuri at an outlay of Rs.6 crores. The administration has also ordered the municipal authorities to chlorinate drinking water before starting its supply. Medical teams have been placed on a high alert.
