THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State president of the BJP P. S. Sreedharan Pillai on Saturday accused Chief Minister Oommen Chandy of misuse of office in transferring prisoners belonging to the CPI (M) back to the Kannur Central jail. Addressing a press conference here, the BJP State president noted that the Chief Minister had accepted responsibility for transferring the prisoners on a request from certain members of the Assembly. Some of the prisoners, including those belonging to the RSS, had been shifted out of the Kannur jail some time ago following violence in the jail. Mr. Chandy acted according to demands of the CPI (M) in shifting them back to Kannur jail. Though the RSS men also had sought transfer back to the jail, their request was not heeded. "Why did Mr. Chandy have a soft corner for the CPI (M) men alone?" Mr. Pillai said the Chief Minister and CPI (M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan should disclose the details of their closed-door discussions in Delhi on October 26. Mr. Vijayan had cancelled his flight ticket for meeting Mr. Chandy. They would have discussed the filing of a counter-affidavit in the public interest case on the Lavalin case or joint strategies to ensure the defeat of the BJP candidate in the Thiruvananthapuram byelection.
