Vested interests behind row: TDB

Staff Reporter

`Board ready to face any inquiry by Government'

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Travancore Devaswom Board authorities have alleged that certain `outside elements' were behind the ongoing controversy over the TDB appointments.

Talking to reporters in Aranmula on Saturday, the TDB president G. Raman Nair and members, Punalur Madhu and M. B. Sreekumar, described the allegations as unfortunate.

Mr. Nair said that the functioning of the Board was transparent and would remain so. However, certain `outside elements' who could not succeed in meddling with the TDB functioning have been spreading baseless charges against the Board.

When reminded of the Devaswom Minister's statement that the Government would seriously look into the corruption charges levelled against the TDB, Mr. Nair said that the Board was ready to face any kind of inquiry initiated by the Government.

The TDB authorities said that those calling for transparency in the TDB functioning should also clarify as to what they meant by the word `transparency'. Mr. Nair said it was natural to face allegations of all sorts when there was an exceptionally large number of aspirants for a handful of vacancies. He said it was for the first time in the history of the TDB that the answer sheets of written examinations were being published on the Internet.
