THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The RSP (Bolshevik) headed by Shibu Baby John, MLA, appears headed back to the ruling UDF. Indicating as much, Shibu faction has removed A.V. Thamarakshan as secretary of the party. The party `State committee' meeting convened by the faction here on Saturday also decided to continue its negotiations with the ruling UDF leadership on returning to the ruling front. The meeting also decided to hold a special convention here on November 2 to discuss its future course of action. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Mr. Shibu said Prof. Thamarakshan had kept the party in the dark about the moves to have ties with the Opposition LDF and that the party secretary had failed to convene a meeting of the State committee to discuss the outcome of the panchayat elections. The meeting was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, but Prof. Thamarakshan had cancelled it at the last minute, he alleged. Meanwhile, Prof. Thamarakshan said the decision to hold discussions with the LDF was taken unanimously by the party and the Shibu faction was levelling charges against him to serve narrow interests of those leading the faction.
"Biggest political joke
of the year"
Prof. Thamarakshan has described his removal from the State general secretaryship of the party by the faction led by Shibu Baby John as childish and the biggest political joke of the year. Prof. Thamarakshan who was on tour asked on his return to Kerala on Saturday how a person elected to the post by the State conference of the party could be removed in such a manner. He said that the State conference of the party held on April 8 and 9 this year and which was attended by 315 delegates had unanimously decided to quit the UDF and strengthen the LDF.
