Kakinada : Mayor K. Saroja has said the Municipal Corporation office will soon get a facelift. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the Mayor said that the ground level at the office building would be raised as it was in a low-lying area to check the frequent inundation problem. Besides, a well-knit drainage system was planned and new rooms would replace the dilapidated ones.
Top on agenda
She said that her priority was to improve sanitation and drainage and later drinking water supply system. Stating that she identified the areas which require immediate attention, the Mayor said that instructions were given to officials to prepare action plans. Mrs. Saroja said that there was a delay in deciding on the dates for the first meeting of the corporation. It was tentatively decided to hold it on November 10. Election for the standing committee would be conducted within a week of the meeting.
Encroachments
Promising total transparency in administration, the Mayor said that the issue of encroachments and action against those indulge in unauthorised construction of multi-storied buildings would be discussed at the first meeting. Admitting waste of water from public taps, the Mayor said all such pipelines would be repaired. The corporation sought allotment of suitable site for dumping yard to find a permanent solution to the garbage disposal problem.
