MYSORE: In view of the threat of an outbreak of epidemic in the city in view of the recent rains, the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has appealed to the residents to drink boiled water as a precautionary measure. In a press statement, the corporation health officer cautioned residents against consuming cut fruits sold by roadside vendors. In the event of residents experiencing diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach ache and other related ailments, the nearest doctor should be consulted immediately for prompt medical treatment. The citizens have been advised to keep their environs clean. If their surroundings are found unhygienic, the residents have been directed to lodge a complaint with him. The Health Officer pointed out that there is a possibility of an epidemic breaking out in view of the recent rains lashing the city. There are reports of people residing in certain areas of the city suffering from diseases. Meanwhile, the Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore said that there is a possibility of epidemic breaking out in rain-hit areas such as Shanthinagar, Ghousianagar, and Azad Nagar. Fearing that such conditions will make room for the spread of diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, leptospirosis, and Hepatitis A, the association said waterlogged roads will soon become breeding grounds for vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, and dengue haemorrhagic fever. The spread of such diseases can be prevented only if clean water and food is supplied to the people. "I request the Corporation Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim to direct authorities of Vani Vilas Water Works authorities to increase the chlorine content in water and avoid contamination," association convenor Lakshmana said. He also requested Mr. Ibrahim to instruct all hotels and restaurants in the city to provide clean and boiled water. "Any violation by the service industry can lead to suspension of license," Mr. Lakshmana said.
