YSR for Nellore today

Nellore: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will visit the flood-affected areas of Bogole mandal in Nellore district on Sunday. According to information, he will arrive at around 11 a.m. and go around some of the marooned villages. Dr. Reddy's visit is likely to last for an hour. Following receipt of information the administration was making arrangements for his visit. - Staff Reporter

Prawn farmers' plea

Nellore: The Nellore District Prawn Farmers' Association has appealed for necessary help from the State Government in view of large-scale damage to hatcheries because of heavy rain.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the association claimed that farmers suffered a loss of Rs. 3 crores. In another statement, the District Sarpanches' Association sought release of special funds to restore Panchayat Raj roads and repair drinking water schemes. - Staff Reporter

Fertilizer donated

TIRUMALA: Godavari Fertilizers Company on Saturday donated seven tonnes of fertilizer to the famous Hill temple of Lord Venkateswara. TTD Special Officer A.V. Dharma Reddy and garden superintendent Gopinath received the donation. General manager of GFC Madhava Rao was present.

In another donation, Satish Seshadri of Chennai and Devidas Viswanath of Thane, Maharastra donated Rs. 1 lakh each to the TTD Ksheeradhara scheme envisaged at providing free `milk' to aged devotees and children at Tirumala. - Staff Reporter

Red sanders seized

Nellore: The police in Venkatagiri town seized a lorry carrying red sander logs worth about Rs. 8 lakhs. They intercepted the lorry on Venkatagiri-Rapur road, which was coming from Dakkili mandal. The two-member crew was held . Staff Reporter

Makthal by-poll on December 10

HYDERABAD: The by-election to Makthal Assembly constituency in Mahbubnagar district to fill the vacancy caused by the killing of Congress MLA C. Narsi Reddy will be held on December 10.

A press release issued by the General Administration Department said that the poll notification would be issued on November 14, the last date for filing of nominations would be November 21 and their scrutiny would take place the next day. November 24 would be the last date for withdrawal of nominations. The counting of votes would be taken up on December 13 and the whole election process completed by December 15. Electronic voting machines would be used in. - Special Correspondent

Police, Maoists exchange fire

KHAMMAM: The police had an exchange of fire with Maoist dalams near Kondapalli village on the banks of Sokileru, a forest stream, on Saturday. The police recovered 10 weapons including an SLR, a 303 rifle and three 12 bore guns. They also recovered nine kitbags and some party literature.

Superintendent of Police Rajiv Kumar Meena said that there were no casualties. - Staff Reporter

Pseudo-naxals arrested

KADAPA: Vempalle police have arrested three pseudo-naxalites and seized eight gelatine sticks from them. Ravisankar Reddy, Narendra Siva Kumar and Ayyavaru Reddy posed as naxalites and threatened to blast the house of a cloth merchant in Vempalle to extort money, Vempalle Sub-Inspector Ravi Kumar said. -Staff Reporter

Maoist supporters held

KADAPA: Rayachoti police have arrested two CPI (Maoist) sympathisers --Sankarapu Sankaraiah and Pathan Mahabub Khan-- and seized 10 detonators and gelatine sticks from them at Kuravapalle crossroads in Rayachoti mandal. They had been extending cooperation to Papaghni dalam leaders, according to Rayachoti CI Mallikarjuna Varma. - Staff Reporter

ENC rescue teams for accident site

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Eastern Naval Command has dispatched three diving teams with Gemini boats, diving sets, compressors and other equipment to provide assistance to railway authorities in rescue and relief work. The team would reach the accident site by a special train from Hyderabad. The diving team consists of 15 personnel.- Staff Reporter
