NALGONDA: Six persons were washed away in the district as all tanks and rivulets overflowing in the district. Three persons, who were washed away in Kanagal vagu included Velugu DPM Thanuja. Three others were washed away in Munugodu rivulet. Normal life was thrown out of gear by incessant rain since last night. Following breaches to the tanks and rivulets, water overflowed everywhere across the district. At Gundrampalli, the tank was cut off and vehicular traffic on the National Highway No 9 got stranded 8 to 9 km distance. Meanwhile, the district headquarters remained cut off from the rest of the district. Joint Collector B. Sridhar's house at the district headquarters was flooded. Five villages at Choutuppal were in the floodwaters. Even as the people were shocked with the unexpected floods, it was still raining heavily compounding the difficulties further. Perhaps for the first time the district has witnessed unusually heavy rainfall. Hundreds and thousands of people were displaced due to floods. The district administration, which is engaged in overseeing the rescue and rehabilitation operations, is yet to take stock of the situation in other parts of the district. The entire machinery was shifted to the accident site and with the VIPs making a beeline to the site, the top officials of the district administration forced to stay put leaving other things aside.
