MANGALORE: The drugs found in a godown belonging to Mangala Transporters at Urwa Stores and a private house in Maroli during raids carried out by the Lokayukta N. Venkatachala and his team on Thursday do not belong to Wenlock District Hospital, District Surgeon and Hospital Superintendent Bharati Nirmal has said. These facts have been wrongly represented in some media reports, she added. Povidone, dexamethasone, chlorpromizine and other drugs and chemicals past their expiry date had been set aside for disposal awaiting instructions from the Director of Medical Education, Bangalore, she said. She said they had been duly accounted for in the stock register by senior pharmacist Dinesh Nayak. A press release from Dr. Nirmal here on Friday said that the hospital authorities have taken steps to provide plastic cups to patients who need to collect their sputum instead of "sputum cups". Mr. Venkatachala had expressed displeasure at the fact that authorities have not made proper arrangements for patients in this regard and that they had to collect their sputum in glasses. Efforts are also being made to provide better facilities to the patients at the hospital with assistance from various organisations, she said. She said that a few of these development works have already been completed.
