Mass run against begging held

KOCHI: A mass run against engaging children in begging was organised in the city by the District level Vigilance committee. The Committee was formed last year, with the District Collector as coordinator, to check increasing instances of exploitation of children.

More than 500 students from Sree Narayana HSS, Ayyapankavu, SRV Vocational HSS, Ernakulam, HSS Ernakulam, Government Girls HSS, Ernakulam, SH HSS, Thevara, St. Albert's HSS, Ernakulam, St. Teresa's College, St. Albert's College, SH College, Bharat Mata College and Rajagiri College of Social Science participated in the run.

The mass run started from four different points. Kochi Corporation deputy mayor C. K. Manisankar flagged off the run at Kaloor, City Police Commissioner P. Vijayan at Thevara, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Detachment) S. Surendran at Bolgatty and City Traffic Police sub inspector Navas at Kadavanthra. Film actor Suresh Gopi addressed the participants at Rajendra Maidan. He also administered an oath against engaging children in begging and inaugurated a signature campaign.
