This Day That Age
India's best films for 1954 will be selected for the President's and Prime Minister's Gold Medals in December. An additional feature of this year's awards will be President's Silver Medals for the best films produced in each language. The President's Gold Medals will be awarded to the best all-India feature film and the best Indian documentary film. The Prime Minister's Gold Medal will be given to the best children's film. The scheme of State awards for outstanding films was instituted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting last year when the first of the awards was made. To select the best three feature films in each language, regional committees will be formed in Bombay, Madras and Calcutta. Each committee will have a chairman nominated by the Government and will include two distinguished men of culture in respect of each language. In each language, the first in the order of merit will receive the President's Silver Medal and the other two, Certificates of Merit.
