Ireland triumphs

WINDHOEK : Ireland pulled off a memorable victory in the final of the Intercontinental Cup here on Saturday as it beat Kenya by six wickets on the third and final day.

Ireland bowled out Kenya for just 156 in its second innings to leave itself a target of 245 to win and reached its objective mid-way through the final session. Jeremy Bray hit 64 and combined in an opening stand of 83 with Dominick Joyce, who cracked a rapid 48.

Kenya skipper Steve Tikolo grabbed two wickets for Kenya but Ireland's in-form middle order had few problems.

Ant Botha was unbeaten on 43, his second important innings of the match following the first innings 78 which enabled the declaration by Trent Johnston, the Ireland captain.That gamble was rewarded with a superb effort from the Irish attack, as it took the remaining seven Kenya wickets for just 48 runs.

The scores: Kenya 401 for four decl. (S. Tikolo 177 (not out), H. Modi 106, K Otieno 72) and 156 (M. Suji 52, McCallan four for 34, White three for 24) lost to Ireland 313 for four decl (N. O'Brien 106 (not out), A. Botha 78, E. Morgan 60) and 245 (D. Joyce 48, J. Bray 64, A. Botha (not out) 43). — AFP
