In appreciation of their duty consciousness

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Traffic policemen on duty at various junctions in Bangalore city had visitors on Saturday. Children from 52 schools tied green ribbons, gave them roses, "thank you" cards and a bag of goodies containing chocolates, notebook, pen and a shoe-polish. All this was done to appreciate the duty consciousness of the traffic policemen. Over 2,000 children took part in the programme, "Traffic Policeman Day", organised by Children's Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA). The programme was aimed at creating awareness on policemen among general public. The students of Prasiddhi School, as part of the programme went around the city in a mobile van. They tied a green ribbon to M.C. Shivaji Rao, a traffic policemen at Palace Guttahalli junction. He was taken unawares by the children's gesture. A visibly happy Mr. Rao said, "I was under the impression that people hardly recognise our services but these children proved me wrong."

He pointed out that people hardly understand their problems and blame them for all traffic bottlenecks. "People should understand that they are also a part of the problem," he said.
