BANGALORE: The concluding day of "VISTA 2005," the management festival of the Indian Institute of Management -Bangalore (IIMB), saw quizmaster Derek O' Brien host "Bizarre," the TATA business quiz, at a high-energy show participated by over 600 teams and attended by more than 4,000 people. The second day of VISTA 2005 saw events such as "Drishtikone," a national-level debating competition, "Ground Zero," a corporate game, and "Foursight," an international business case contest, taking centre-stage at the scenic IIMB campus. The preliminary rounds of the business quiz held in IIMB's 24 classrooms and the auditorium saw close to 2,000 entries from over 170 colleges across India as well as corporate participants who came from places such as Pune and Chennai. At the end of the highly charged two-hour business quiz, "Metaquizzics" comprising members from Sun Microsystems, HCL and Vice Technologies, walked away with the cash prize of Rs. 30,000. Earlier during the day, HLL and Team Vista jointly presented Drishtikone which saw participation from India's top 24 academic institutes. The teams from NITIE and IIM-Kolkata battled it out in the finals of Drishtikone, which was a parliamentary round where one team had to represent the Government and the other the Opposition. NITIE won the contest. Foursight, the international business case contest, delivered to participants a taste of the real corporate world with each team being given four business scenarios, each a real management situation faced by Cognizant. The top winning team was from IIMA. Ground Zero, the corporate game, saw participation from Wipro, Motorola, SCT, Sasken and Accenture, among others. Selected on the basis of their performance in a supply chain game, employees of over 60 companies battled for the "Best Corporate @ Vista Trophy." The motive of the game being simply "Maximise your profits," the participants had the tough job of increasing sales of FMCG products of the company in a thrilling sales and distribution game. The day saw an all-women team from Huawei Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. walking away with the "Best Corporate @ VISTA Award." Logsticks, the operations game, was a test in production quantity management, advertising mix management and production shift management. The winners and runners-up were both teams from IIMB. For those who wanted to take a break from formal events, there was the "Informalz" stage where events such as arm wrestling, dumb charades, Ad-mad show and more entertained students. VISTA 2005 with the theme "India Inc.- Dream. Explore. Discover." was inaugurated on October 28. Over 250 schools, including over 70 business schools from India and abroad, participated in the event. The total prize money given away this year was close to Rs. 10 lakhs.
