Merger of CMCs

with BMP

Sir, — According to reports, the Cabinet has approved the merger of City Municipal Councils (CMCs) with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) after the damage caused by the rain in parts of Bangalore. The merger will not help solve the problem but will only complicate it much to the detriment of the citizens.

The Government should instead seek expert opinion to tackle the problem.

BDA Layout

Sir, — It has been more than three years since sites were allotted by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) in Anjanapura Layout. But not a single house has come up there owing to lack of infrastructure such as roads, water supply, sewerage, ground levelling, etc. When there is shortage of accommodation in the city, BDA is dithering to provide the facilities in this layout. If infrastructure is provided, 10,000 residential units can be built on 5,000 sites. I urge the authorities concerned to do the needful.

Water logging

Sir, — Though we have had heavy rainfall in October, even normal rainfall results in water-logging in several parts of the city owing to several reasons such as clogged drains and over-flowing manholes. It is time that the Government took up a survey of such areas. There are experts who can suggest permanent solutions to this problem. We need to redesign and upgrade our storm-water drainage system. Those who block the drains with rubbish, debris and building material should be penalised.
