BSNL festival bonanza

CHENNAI: BSNL Chennai Telephones has announced a festival bonanza for pre-paid cellular subscribers in the country for 15 days beginning November 1.

Full talk time of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 are offered on recharge coupons of the same value (sale value is Rs. 551 and Rs. 1102) and the same will be activated from November 1-15.

Temple cleaned

Volunteers of SEVAS, a social service organisation cleaned Kothandaramar Koil Temple at West Mambalam on Sunday. The NGO distributed new clothes to inmates of Vishranti Old Age Home on Monday. Those interested in volunteering can contact phone number 22412582.

Eye camp

About 65 persons were screened for various eye ailments at Balakrishna Eye Hospital in Saidapet on Saturday. The hospital conducted a free diabetic retinopathy and diabetes camp. Medicines were given to those requiring it.

Bank to sell gold coins

As part of its centenary celebrations in 2006, the Corporation Bank will sell eight gram gold coins of .9999 purity at its branches in Mylapore, Indira Nagar, Kellys, Egmore, Anna Nagar and T. Nagar. The bank began wholesale trade in gold from January 1998 selling KG bars and 100 gm bars through selected branches. The bank took up retail sale of gold from September 1998.

Blood donation

A blood donation camp was held as part of National Integration Day being observed on Monday. The camp was organised on Sunday at Elephant Gate in front of Indira Gandhi's statue. The camp was held under the aegis of K. Ramalinga Jothi, district organising secretary of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.

Clothes distributed

The Chromepet branch of Sevabarathi Tamil Nadu Trust distributed clothes to 105 students for Diwali last week at a function held in an old age home in Nanmanglam. Nanmangalam municipal leaders participated in the programme.

Academy's gesture

Mylapore Academy celebrated Deepavali with the inmates of Abhaya Nilayam, a home for destitute women at Kutchery Road on Sunday. T.R. Rajagopalan, senior advocate presided over the function and distributed sweets and saris. He donated Rs. 10,000 to the home.

Discount offer

To mark the festive season and Music World's eighth anniversary, customers who walk in to their Spencer Plaza outlet will receive discount vouchers on November 1. The price-off vouchers entitle the visitors to save Rs. 50 per voucher for purchases of Rs. 250.

Couple electrocuted

A couple, while polishing a floor in a house in Ambattur died of electric shock on Sunday. Police said Pandurangan (50) and his wife Malliga (44), hailing from MGR Nagar near K.K.Nagar, were polishing the floor of a house in Prithivivakkam, near Ambattur, when they received electric shock. Both were rushed to the Kilpauk hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
