NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a man who allegedly accepted a bribe from a person on behalf of a Delhi Police sub-inspector. The accused sub-inspector had allegedly demanded the bribe from the person for not implicating him in a murder case. According to the CBI, the complainant, a manufacturer of sofa sets living at Bhajanpura in North-East Delhi, had told the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the CBI that Sub-Inspector Ajay Bali of the Bhajanpura police station was investigating a murder case and had demanded Rs. 1 lakh from him for not implicating him.

Later, SI Ajay purportedly asked the complainant to send a sofa set to his house. He told him that the price of the sofa set would be adjusted in the bribe amount and, since the sofa was around Rs. 30,000, he would have to pay Rs. 70,000 only. The complainant delivered a sofa to SI Ajay's house. On Tuesday, SI Ajay sent his conduit, Arun Sharma, to collect the remaining amount of the bribe from the complainant at his shop. After collecting Rs. 70,000, Arun informed Ajay over the phone that he had got money. The ACB team, which had laid a trap there, then arrested Arun. A raid was conducted at the SI's residence but he was found absconding. The CBI seized the sofa set from his residence. Meanwhile, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and efforts are on to trace the accused.
