NEW DELHI: Despite its services ending a couple of hours early on November 1 on account of Diwali, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation still registered a good ridership of nearly 1.70 lakh passengers during the day. The Corporation announced on Wednesday that on Diwali the rush was neither exceptionally heavy nor very little. As such though the last Metro train operated at 8 p.m. -- the normal closure time for operations being 10 p.m. -- a large number of people availed of the services. To facilitate their movement, the trains ran at a peak five-minute frequency all through the day. While the ridership may not have been exceptionally heavy on Diwali, DMRC is definitely expecting a surge on Id which falls on Friday. Then, too, the Metro trains would operate at a five-minute frequency for a large part of the day and unlike Diwali they would run up till 10 p.m. "On Diwali, we have found that people mostly prefer staying back at home whereas on Id there is more movement ,'' said a senior Delhi Metro official.
