Naxals thrash Congress, TDP functionaries

NALGONDA: After a lull, a group of naxalites of Bellamkonda dalam struck at Krishnapuram in Mellacheruvu mandal severely injuring one and beating five others, including village unit presidents of the Congress and the Telugu Desam, late on Tuesday night.

According to sources, more than 10 armed Maoists descended on the village and took six persons - Chintareddy Saidi Reddy, a farmer, Sheik Moulali, Congress village unit president, Ismail, Congress activist, Dastagiri, TDP village unit president, Vulli Sitaiah, village helper, and Sheik Saida, a vendor - into their custody.

They beat Mr. Saidi Reddy dubbing him police informer. He suffered multiple injuries on his left leg. They also roughed up the remaining five persons charging them with selling cheap liquor defying their warning.

Before leaving the village, they warned them not to use mobile phones and sell liquor in future.
