HYDERABAD: A five-member Telugu Desam Party delegation led by MLA N. Janardhan Reddy has urged Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to inquire into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of irrigation projects in Mahabubnagar district particularly Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme. The delegation, which included the Nagarkurnool MP M. Jaganadham, former Minister P. Ramulu and others met the Chief Minister on Wednesday and expressed concern over the decision to reduce the capacity of the second tunnel of the LI scheme between Yellur and Gudipalligattu. Dr. Janardhan Reddy said the Chief Minister had directed Irrigation Secretary Satish Chandra to look into the complaints and take necessary action.
Poor quality
The TDP leaders informed the Chief Minister that the work on Kalwakurthy LI scheme second tunnel was entrusted to a firm, which was inexperienced to handle it. Dr. Janardhan Reddy alleged that the quality of work was not up to the mark. He said if the capacity of the second tunnel was reduced, the proposed ayacut would also come down affecting the interests of the local ryots. He said the motor pumps used for pumping were of different make and wanted the BHEL-manufactured motors to be fitted for drawing water.
