Bangalore: Airline tickets can be booked through Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) installed by banks. The service is being first launched by IDBI Bank for its customers across the country. The facility will allow the bank's customers to book air tickets initially for Indian Airlines with the possibility of extending it to other airlines subsequently. The customer will be able to access flight schedules, select destination and dates of travel, booking class, frequent flier details, meal preferences and so on at the convenience of his local ATM. On booking the ticket, the requisite amount will be debited to the customer's account, with a confirmation receipt in the form of an itinerary printed. This printed slip, similar to the e-booking airline ticket, may then be submitted at the airline's counter at the time of the travel to get boarding pass. IDBI Bank has deployed ATMs made by NCR Corporation. "NCR has offered innovative ATM solutions to the banks to offer a flexible self-service channel. Booking of airline tickets through the ATMs marks a global first that will allow IDBI Bank to offer a tremendous value-add to its customers", says Deepak Chandnani, Managing Director of the Ohio-based NCR Corporation's India operations.
