`We Are Like This (W)Only' runners-up, `Intel Inside Mental Outside' finishes third

TOP BRAINS: Members of the `Know Brainers' who won the first prize at Landmark Quiz.

BANGALORE: "Know Brainers," the team of Rajan S.P., Rajiv Rai and Gopal Kidao, won the second Landmark Quiz 2005 held here on Tuesday.

Over 300 teams from Chennai, Kochi, Pondicherry, Hyderabad, Mysore, and Bangalore participated in the event. The quiz was conducted at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The questions ranged from current affairs to music, fashion to films and technology to literature. Eight teams fought it out for the top place.

The quiz was hosted by quizmaster Derek O'Brian and supported by Navin Jayakumar and Gautam Padmanabhan.

The Landmark Quiz is arguably the largest open quizzes in the country made up of three-member teams.

Among the participating teams from Bangalore were those from over 50 colleges, including the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and the Christ College. There were also teams from St. Joseph's School and Bishop Cotton Boys School. Also participating were teams from corporates such as Infosys, Mphasis, Oracle and the Central Excise Department.

Many questions in the quiz had their basis in magazines and newspaper articles, lending a contemporary feel to the event.

In an unusual format, questions of preliminary rounds were announced while the checking continued backstage to spot the finalists, the quizmasters walked around the hall interacting with the audience and distributing over 100 prizes.

The team, "We are Like This (W)only", of Ochintya, Arun Hiregange and Anustup Datta were the runners-up at the quiz.

"Intel Inside Mental Outside" comprising Vinod, Krishnamurthi and Thejaswi came third.

The best school team was from National Public School Indiranagar, represented by Badri Narayan, Sachin T.R. and Pradeep while Infosys was adjudged the best corporate team. The best team name prize went to HTTP (Hardly Any Time To Prepare). The prize of "Landmark Quizzer of the Year" was shared by Rajiv Rai of "Know Brainers" and Sushila Kamat of HTTP.
