BANGALORE: Deepavali celebrations turned out to be a tragedy for the family of Narayanaswamy after he was stabbed to death and two of his family members were injured after six persons allegedly attacked them with knives in Nandagudi police station limits on Tuesday night. According to complainant Venkateshappa, Ashwatha, Munikrishna, Venkatesh, Devaraja, Kumara and Raja, all residents of T. Agrahara in Soolibele hobli of Hoskote taluk, were bursting firecrackers near the house of Narayanaswamy at around 7 p.m. The victim and his family objected to the bursting of firecrackers saying that the silk cocoons will get affected and the worms will die because of smoke. The angry revellers allegedly attacked them with knives leaving Narayanaswamy dead and injuring Pillappa and Venkateshappa. Nandagudi police have registered a case and are investigating. The accused are yet to be arrested, the police said.
Chased, murdered
The body of Manjunath alias Machcha Manja (30), who was brutally hacked to death by a gang of 40 in Yelahanka Police station limits, was shifted to his native village in Nelamangala taluk on Wednesday evening, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharat Chandra. According to the police, the attack was a result of a gang war between two groups, one led by Manjunath, who was in the getup of a youth Congress leader. He was controlling the cable network in Kamakshipalya. Manjunath had shifted his residence from Kamakshipalya to Judicial Layout in Yelahanka sensing threat to his life. He and seven of his associates had started to his office in Kamakshipalya in two vehicles on Tuesday morning. The assailants, travelling in two tempos and two cars, cornered Manjunath's vehicle in Judicial Layout and dragged Manjunath out of the vehicle and threw chilli powder on him. Although Manjunath and his associates attempted to resist the attack, the assailants attacked Manjunath with machete. After committing the crime, three vehicles of the assailants were involved in accidents and the police were able to nab eight of them. Manjunath died at a hospital later in the day. Senior police officers, including Commissioner of Police Ajai Kumar Singh visited the spot. The Yelahanka police have registered a case and are investigating.
