NEW DELHI: Three persons of a family, including an elderly couple, were killed and 15 others injured in over 250 incidents of fire reported from various parts of the Capital on Diwali night. The curtains caught fire and smoke emanating from the burning material choked all the three to death, said the spokesperson. At the time only the victims were present in the house. In another incident, at least 13 people sustained burn injuries when fire broke out in a Mongolpuri house in North-West Delhi. However, the injuries were not reported to be serious. At Anand Parbat in West Delhi, two firemen sustained minor injuries while fighting a blaze in a plastic granules factory around midnight. The fire brigade had to deploy at least 20 fire tenders to douse the flame. The fire was put out around 3-30 a.m. The firemen were discharged after first aid. Earlier, a fire broke out in a double-storey shoe factory at Brahmpuri in North-East Delhi around 11-30 p.m. on Tuesday. Several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flame that was brought under control after six hours. No one was injured in the incident. The police said a cracker landing in the factory premises could have led to the fire. In all, the Department received 262 calls throughout the night (till 6-30 p.m.) which were roughly the same as last year.
