dated November 4, 1955: Sadhus and society

Prime Minister Nehru has said that a great majority of sadhus in India were "parasites and anti-social elements." The Prime Minister, who was inaugurating the first session of the Saurashtra Bharat Sevak Samaj in Rajkot on November 2, said that out of the total population of 55 lakh sadhus in the country, he thought hardly ten to fifteen thousand were genuine sanyasins.
