Letters to the Editor
The Delhi blasts remind us that the Government needs to send a strong signal that India does not have infinite patience. The police must be vigilant not only in matters of VIP security but also in protecting the defenceless common man. They can install surveillance cameras in busy markets at least during the festival season. Efforts should also be made to educate the people on what to do and what not to do during a terrorist strike.
Sahil Vinayak,
* * * It was the closed circuit television in the London Underground that helped in fixing the identity of the serial bombers. The authorities should seriously consider installing CCTVs in busy places in this country too.
S. Prakash,
* * * While appreciating the restraint the Government shows every time terrorist attacks take place, it should be realised that the people are becoming increasingly angry at what they perceive as inaction. The only time the Government responded in a tough manner was when Parliament was attacked. The responsibility for dismantling the terror infrastructure rests totally and solely with Pervez Musharraf and he should take the blame for their continued existence.
Subramanyam Sridharan,
* * * While we pay our condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the early recovery of those injured in the serial blasts, we must salute the spirit and resilience of the people of Delhi. Just a couple of days after the blasts the markets were crowded and Delhi was back to normal. The resolve and commitment of Indians in general and Delhi-ites in particular will never be deterred by the heinous acts of a frustrated lot.
Kashyap C. Bakshi,
* * * Life is back to normal in Delhi sooner than expected. People have put up a brave front and kept their spirits high in spite of the existing sensitive situation. By doing so, they have sent a strong message to the terrorists that their cowardly act cannot dampen the spirit and unity of the people.
Sudhir Shivaram,
