VISAKHAPATNAM: Hindustan Shipyard Limited launched its 145th vessel, `Sagar Manjusha,' a buoy tender-cum-research vessel, at a ceremony held in the yard here on Thursday. `Sagar Manjusha,' built for the Chennai-based National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), was the 108th vessel to slide into the waters from the second slipway of the shipyard. Secretary in the Union Department of Ocean Development P.S. Goel was the chief guest, and Shoba Goel formally launched the ship. HSL Chairman and Managing Director Ajit Tewari was present. NIOT Director S. Kathiroli said `Sagar Manjusha' would beef up the institute's research activity which was chartering one or two vessels every year. `Sagar Manjusha' was designed by the Naval Ship Design Research Centre here. The 60-metre-long vessel could accommodate 11 scientists and would be fitted with all equipment needed.
