CHENNAI: Northeast monsoon has been active over north Tamil Nadu. Rainfall occurred at many places over north Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka and at a few places over south Tamil Nadu, Kerala and coastal Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over north interior Karnataka. Dry weather prevailed over Telangana and Lakshadweep. The following stations recorded heavy rainfall in centimetres: Karambakudi (Pudukottai dt.) 8, Kattumannarkoil (Cuddalore dt.), Kovilankulam and Soolagiri (Krishnagiri dt.) 7 each. The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in centimeters are: Arani (Tiruvanamalai dt.), Sulur (Coimbatore) and Peraiyur (Madurai dt.) 6 each, Pattukottai (Thanjavur dt.) Ambur (Vellore dt.) Barur (Krishnagiri dt.), Valangaiman (Tiruvarur dt.), Vembavur (Perambalur dt.), Manamelkudi, Gobichettipalayam (Erode dt.), Watrap (Virudhunagar dt.), Visakhaptanam and K.R. Sagara (Mandya dt.) 5 each, Keeranur (Pudukottai dt.), Lalgudi (Tiruchirapalli dt.), Nellore Mysore and Subramanya (Dakshina Kanna dt.) 4 each. FORECAST (valid until Saturday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala and at a few places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over Rayalaseema, Telaangana, Lakshadweep and coastal north interior Karnataka. HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING: Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala during next 48 hours. FORECAST for Chennai city and neighbourhood (valid until Saturday morning): Generally cloudy with one or two shower or thundershower.
