Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: S. Meenakshi, a trainee of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here who has been raising mushroom since 1998, has designed a low-cost autoclave for spawn production. Meenakshi displayed the autoclave at an exhibition during a two-day national conference of the Krishi Vigyan Kendras held in Delhi recently. The conference-cum-exhibition was organised by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research. A large number of staff from around 25 select KVKs participated in the conference inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar inaugurated the exhibition. A release from the Kendra Principal K. Ramamoorthy said here on Thursday that Meenakshi designed and developed the autoclave with the help of her husband. She arranged the exhibition at the conference. The autoclave also demonstrated the success of the programme of the KVK here to hone the entrepreneurship skills of women. Chairman of Pondicherry unit of the Kendra Nanda Jayaraman, KVK Zonal Coordinator S. Prabhukumar at Bangalore and the Kendra Principal were among those who coordinated the efforts of the trainee to arrange the exhibition. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Pondicherry was the first institution in the country as a whole started some 32 years ago as a pilot project.
