BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Government on Thursday signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with different private companies for establishment of five more steel plants in the State. These include: Rungta Mines Ltd (two plants of one million tonnes per annum at Kamando in Sundargarh district and Jharband in Dhenkanal district); Stats Steel India (P) Ltd (five lakh tpa at Tangi, Cuttack); Jai Balaji Jyoti Steels Ltd (3.3 lakh tpa at Tainsar, Sundargarh); Brand Alloys Ltd (2.7 lakh tpa at Palaspanga, Keonjhar); and Eastern Steels & Power Ltd (2.5 lakh tpa at Lahandabud, Jharsuguda). The MoU signed earlier with Jindal Steel and Power Ltd was revised to increase the capacity of the steel plant from two million tonnes to six million tonnes. An agreement was also signed with Bhushan Steel & Strips Ltd for the setting up of a three million tonnes capacity steel plant at Meramundali in Dhenkanal district. The MoU for the project was signed earlier.
