VIJAYAWADA: President of Telugu Desam Party urban unit Gadde Rammohan has again set his sights on the Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency. He has drawn up plans to tour all the areas in the constituency extensively in the coming days and has already visited several places in Nuzvid Assembly constituency. Sources in the party said that Mr. Rammohan indicated to party president N. Chandrababu Naidu about his plans to get back to his parliamentary constituency, rather than be limited to the urban unit. Against this background, he shot off a letter to Mr. Naidu seeking three months leave from party activities. But Mr. Naidu was said to have asked Mr. Rammohan to continue in the post and at the same time concentrate on party activities in rural areas falling in the LS constituency.
Tour today
Mr. Rammohan will tour the Tiruvuru area from Friday with a view to drawing the people's attention to his future plans of returning to the parliamentary constituency. After he was made urban president after the 2004 general elections, he took up various activities and made efforts to strengthen the party. For some unknown reasons, Mr. Rammohan did not feel comfortable in improving the party's stock in the city under the prevailing conditions. The party could not fare well as expected in the recent municipal elections. Mr. Rammohan's fortunes fluctuated with the party's electoral chances all through. He won from the Gannavaram Assembly segment as an independent in 1994. The TDP denied ticket to him, which led to his contesting as an independent. Later, the party president convinced him to contest from Vijayawada parliamentary constituency in 1999 after the party chose to field Dasari Balavardhana Rao from Gannavaram. Mr. Rammohan emerged successful and became an MP.
Early claim?
The party leadership asked him to change over to Kankipadu Assembly constituency in 2004, to which Mr. Rammohan agreed after some persuasion. He was defeated in the election. Later, Mr. Rammohan was handed over the reins of the TDP urban unit. But, he was found to be comfortable either in the Gannavarm Assembly constituency or the Vijayawada parliamentary constituency. This time, Mr. Rammohan was expected to make an early claim for Vijayawada Lok Sabha ticket in the next elections and hence the revival of his tours in rural areas.
