MCD Commissioner transferred

NEW DELHI: Municipal Commissioner Rakesh Mehta has been transferred and he is likely to be succeeded by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Ashok Kumar. Mr. Mehta will be demitting office on November 14.

Mr. Mehta joined the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in April 2002 and had a successful three-and-a-half-year tenure. He is likely to take over as Secretary in Delhi's Urban Development Department

Sheila conveys

Id greetings

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has conveyed her greetings and good wishes to the Capital's citizens on Id today.

She expressed the hope that the festival of Id that upholds universal brotherhood would bring about peace and prosperity to the people.

L-G reviews situation

NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B. L. Joshi held a high-level meeting at Raj Niwas on Wednesday to review the situation arising out of the recent serial bomb blasts in the Capital.

Earlier in the day Mr. Joshi resumed duty cutting short his private visit to the US. Also present at the meeting were Chief Secretary S. Regunathan, Principal Secretary (Home) R. Narainswamy, Police Commissioner K. K. Paul, and Special Commissioner (Intelligence) U.K. Katna.

World Thrift Day

NEW DELHI: The National Savings Institute organised a function at Rouse Avenue here over the weekend to mark World Thrift Day.

The Postmaster General of Delhi Circle, Meera Handa, was the chief guest and she awarded prizes to the best post offices in Delhi. The first prize was awarded to Ashok Vihar HPO for securing the maximum number of savings bank certificates and accounts during 2004-2005. The second prize went to Parliament Street HPO and the third prize to Delhi GPO.

NCC team for Bhutan

NEW DELHI: A National Cadet Corps delegation comprising two officers and ten cadets will leave for Bhutan under a youth exchange programme on November 7. They will be in Bhutan till November 13.

Led by Colonel Pradeep Dixit and Major Dhirendra Singh, the delegation will be visiting the Heritage Museum and various monasteries besides interacting with their counterparts.

Theme party

NEW DELHI: On Diwali-eve, the Circle of Animal Lovers organised a small theme party at a hotel here in Saket where people from different walks of life lit candles and talked about how to address animal-related issues. The idea was to involve more and more people for the cause of animals.

The celebration ended with people pledging to lend a helping hand to animals through the Circle of Animal Lovers that has ambulances and six shelters across the city.
