`Avicharitham' wins five State television awards

`Sultanveedu,' second best serial, secures four awards.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The teleserial `Avicharitham,' telecast by Asianet, has bagged five State television awards for 2004 including that for the best serial.

`Sultanveedu' (Kairali TV), which was chosen the second best serial, secured four awards.

`Tree of Life' (Asianet), produced by Mampillil brothers and directed by Leo Tadeus, won the State award for the best telefilm. `Rachiamma' (Doordarshan), produced by Chandrika Harikumar and directed by Harikumar, was chosen the second best telefilm. `Kalam Chathicha Bihagum Malharum,' made by Asianet and directed by Vinod Mankara, won the award for the best documentary. Mankara was also chosen the best director, considering three of his documentaries.

The Director of `Avicharitham,' K.K. Rajiv, won the award for the best director [teleserial]. The other awards won by the serial were for the best script (by Bobby and Sanjay), best actor (Prem Prakash) and best actress (Sreevidya). `Sultanveedu' bagged the awards for best story (by P.A. Mohammed Koya), best supporting actress (Zeenath) and best art director (Makkada Devadas). Sona Nair shared the award for best supporting actress with Zeenath for her acting in `Rachiamma' and `Thyagam' (Doordarshan). M.R. Gopakumar won the award for the best supporting actor for his presentation of wide-ranging characters. Sisira was chosen the best child artist for her acting in `Manathekku parakkan wa' (Kairali TV). Bhagat Chandran of Indiavision was named the best newsreader.

The awards for the best serial and telefilm carry Rs.15,000 each for the producer and director. The runner-ups get Rs.12,000 each. Other awards carry varying sums. In addition, all State awards carry a citation and statuette.

The awards were announced by Minister for Culture A.P. Anil Kumar. The following are the other awards announced. (No award was announced for children's programmes).

Best Videographer: T.G. Sreekumar, Black and White the game, Asianet.

Best Editor: Sreenivasan, Black and White the game, The Trap and Unnam, Asianet.

Best Music Director: Ramesh Narayanan, Ragardham, Doordarshan.

Best Sound Recordist: Mathew Oorali, Prathinja, Doordarshan.

Special Jury Award: Asok Naduvathil, Thirichariyate (telefilm), Kairali.

Best Compere: Sangeetha Mohan, Ladies Only, Asianet.

Best Commentator: Anjana, Mazha, Indiavision.

Best Anchor/Interviewer: Gopikrishnan, Suprabhatham episodes, Perumbadavam Sreedharan, Gopika, Asianet.

Best Anchor: B.R. Prasad and Rani Sasikumar, Suprabhatham (Kuthiramalika episode), Asianet.

Best Investigative Journalist: Biju Pankaj, Visham Nirayunna Sugandhagirigal, Soorya TV.

Best current and socially relevant programme: Manjusha George (director), Ariyathe, Kairali.

Special Jury Award: Shiny Jacob Benjamin, Mazha, Shadows, Indiavision.

Best literary work on television: M.K. Sivasankaran, Drisyavismayangalude Kalnoottandu.
