HYDERABAD: South Central Railway (SCR) has announced that one line on Bitragunta-Gudur section had been restored with a temporary bridge, while tenders for construction of a new bridge on the other line were being finalised. Work is in full swing for construction of a temporary bridge between Valigonda and Ramannapet on the Bibingar-Guntur section where traffic remains paralysed following flash floods and derailment of the Repalle-Secunderabad Delta Fast Passenger. On Thursday, in-charge General Manager SCR, Thomas Varghese on Thursday called on Chief Secretary T.K. Dewan and briefed him on the restoration works. As against 100 trains to Chennai which run normally on up and down lines, they were able to handle 50 trains on the single line with the restoration of the temporary bridge, he said. Most of the trains running on the diverted route would be restored to the normal route from November 4. After reconstruction of the new bridge, the present temporary bridge would also be taken up for reconstruction and until such time, some of the trains would remain cancelled, Mr. Varghese informed. Mr. Varghese expressed the hope that the temporary bridge between Valigonda and Ramannapet would be completed by November 7 and services on the section resumed. However, there will be a number of speed restrictions and cautions on the section which will result in late running of trains for a while, he said.
