Man wanted in 25 cases arrested

BANGALORE: The Hennur Police have arrested Korangu alias Krishna, against whom there are 25 cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, robbery and extortion in different police stations in the city.

The police said they arrested Korangu from his hideout, a poultry farm in Nageshwara Nagenahalli, on Tuesday. Korangu had extended his activities to areas falling under Hebbal, Yelahanka, Vidyaranyapura and Jalahalli police station limits and was extorting money from brothels. He collected daily and monthly "hafta' from the brothels in these areas, the police said. Korangu was arrested after the brothel owners lodged complaints, they said.

The police have recovered from Korangu a multi-utility vehicle, a motorcycle and gold ornaments. There are 25 cases against Korangu in Ulsoor Gate, Vyalikaval, Mahalakshmi Layout, Sadashivanagar, Hebbal and Hanumanthanagar police stations and he had jumped bail in some cases. There is a history sheet against him in Vyalikaval police station, the police said.

Four held

The Cubbon Park police have arrested four persons who were allegedly running a prostitution racket through Internet and seized from them two luxury cars, three mobile phones and Rs. 5,000 in cash.

The police said the four were arrested from near an upmarket café on Lavelle Road on Wednesday. The accused contacted prospective customers through a website, showed them the photographs of call girls and fixed the deals, the police said.

The police are on the lookout for Helen of Mumbai, who runs the website, and her Bangalore-based accomplice, Ravi.

Robbery

Two women were robbed of their gold chains and a man of his mobile phone and cash in as many incidents reported from the city since Wednesday.

The police said that around 10.45 p.m. on Wednesday two men waylaid Nagendra, who was travelling in a multi-utility vehicle, in Vasanthapura in Subramanyapura police station limits.

They robbed him of the cash and the mobile phone at knifepoint and ran away. When Nagendra raised an alarm, an alert public and night beat policeman chased the two and caught one of them. The police gave his name as Abdul Rasheed (26) of Kumaraswamy Layout.

A youth snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 35,000 from a woman in Byatarayanapura police station limits on Thursday.

The police said that around 6.30 a.m. the youth snatched the chain from Vasantha Jayaraj when she was walking near her house in Ideal Homes Society in Rajarajeshwarinagar. He escaped on a motorcycle, on which his accomplice was waiting at a distance. The Byatarayanapura police have registered a case.

In a similar incident, a youth snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 25,000 from Jyothi Palaniraj in Vijaya Bank Colony, off Bannerghatta Road, around 10.45 a.m. on Thursday. He escaped on his accomplice's motorcycle, the police said. The MICO Layout police have registered a case.

Arrested

The Subramanyapura police on Wednesday arrested two youths in connection with vehicle theft and recovered from them two mopeds, together worth Rs. 20,000.
