NEW DELHI: An alleged Haryana-based criminal who carried a reward of Rs. 50,000 on his head was gunned down in an encounter with a special team of the Crime Branch of the Delhi police at Najafgarh in South-West Delhi on Wednesday. He was involved in at least 30 criminal cases. A team under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joy Tirkey, received a tip-off that a Haryana-based criminal, Satish, would come to C-Block Gola Dairy in Najafgarh on Wednesday night. Subsequently the police laid a siege to arrest him. Around 11 p.m., Satish was seen strolling in the area on foot. The police challenged him, asking him to surrender. However, Satish allegedly opened fire at them in a bid to flee. In the police firing, Satish sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to Rao Tula Ram Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. A 9 mm pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession. Satish, a resident of Hissar in Haryana, was initiated into the world of crime in 1998. His brother, Surender, was killed in an encounter with the Haryana police at Bhiwani about three months ago.
