This Day That Age
A new ad hoc transitional agreement has been reached between India and Pakistan, with the good offices of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for the use of the Indus waters for irrigation purposes for this year's rabi season. This was announced in a joint communiqué issued simultaneously in New Delhi and Karachi. The agreement continues for the period October 1, 1955 to March 31, 1956, with arrangements for establishing ad hoc amounts for additional canal withdrawals by India from the three eastern rivers (Ravi, Beas and Sutlej) on the lines similar to those established by the previous transitional agreement, which ran from April 1, 1955 to September 30, 1955.
