Staff Reporter

500 for professional courses and 550 for non-professional ones

  • Those in the merit list of AIPMT, AIEEE and Class XII Board exams will be considered
  • 5 per cent of the total scholarships for single girl children pursuing undergraduate non-professional courses

NEW DELHI: To help meritorious students pursue the course of their choice, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced two merit-based scholarships schemes.

In a statement here on Friday, the CBSE said a total of 500 scholarships of Rs. 1,000 each per month would be awarded for four years to candidates pursuing courses in medicine or engineering in the institutes participating in the CBSE conducted AIPMT/ AIEEE examinations. In addition, 550 scholarships of Rs. 500 per month will also be awarded for three years to candidates pursuing non-professional courses in Central or State government universities.

Students coming in the merit list of the AIPMT and AIEEE and Class XII public examinations conducted by the Board from the year 2005 onwards would be automatically considered for the scholarship, the CBSE said.

The CBSE has accorded a special status under these scholarships for girls who are the only children in the family. All such children who are appearing in the merit list of AIPMT/AIEEE will be given the scholarship for pursuing medical/engineering courses. In addition, five per cent of the total number of scholarships would be available to single girl children pursuing undergraduate non-professional courses, provided they have secured at least 60 per cent marks in their Class XII examinations.

While names of all girls who are being considered under this section have been put up on the CBSE website, offer letter of the scholarship has also been sent to the 500 students under consideration in the medical and engineering courses, and in the case of the non- professional undergraduate courses to 860 candidates.

The last date for receipt of offers of acceptance from students is November 30.
