New show at Bharat Bhavan

BHOPAL: Bharat Bhavan, the multi-arts complex here in the State capital, has also become the venue for a major exhibition of sculptures created by renowned artists from across the country.

The new gallery of sculptures was inaugurated at Roopankar in Bharat Bhavan on Thursday by the State Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur. The inaugural ceremony was part of the ongoing fortnight-long golden jubilee celebrations to mark 50 years of Madhya Pradesh.

The sculptures displayed in this gallery were carved by noted sculptors at a ten-day camp especially organised at Bharat Bhavan.

Praising the sculptures, the Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh is famous for the sculptures of Khajuraho, Pachmarhi, Sanchi, Orccha, Gyaraspur and the pre-historic rock paintings of Bhim Baithaka. Even sculptures from the Mahabharata, Ramayan era continue to exist in Madhya Pradesh, he said.

Mr. Gaur had a special word of praise for various cultural activities being conducted at Bharat Bhavan. The State Government was also promoting and encouraging budding and talented artistes, he said adding that the sculptures on display at the new gallery would further enrich the Roopankar art gallery.

Renowned sculptors from Ahmedabad, Chennai, Lucknow, Jaipur, Indore, Gwalior, Varanasi, Vadodara, and Bhopal earlier attended the sculptors camp held at Bharat Bhavan. Visitors to the Bharat Bhavan art gallery have praised some of the exhibits. These include "Phool" by Jaya Vivek, "Boya Beej Babool Ka" by Rabin David, "Type-Writter" by Shashi Kant Moondy, "Drishya" by Shailendra Vinod Singh, "Navgrah" by Rajeev Nayan, "Sanyojan" by Khanderao Pawar, "Dynamism" by Jayanti Nayak, "Tree" by Rajeshwaran Nayak, "Chehra" by Ankit Patel, "Caseroll" by Pramod Sharma and "I Am Here" by Deepak.
