Now, shorthand on computers

Staff Reporter

It will be more accurate than the Pitman's system of shorthand, says Ramaswamy

A keyboard with shorthand strokes.

CHENNAI: A keyboard with shorthand strokes replacing alphabets has been designed for the benefit of computer users. The `Newrite system' of shorthand invented by Walter Kistler of the U.S. enables display of English words simultaneously on the monitor while the shorthand is typed on the keyboard.

The joint effort of the Stenographers' Guild, T. Nagar and Steno Trust, Washington, has brought the software to Chennai. The Guild here has already trained 60 persons. Guild's honorary president, S.V. Ramaswamy, said this system would be more accurate than the Pitman's system of shorthand in vowel indications by strokes and the computer interface would provide better speed.

For details contact 1, Guild Street, T. Nagar. Ph: 24342421 or 2433 7387.
