A tribute to the spirit of excellence

The jury adds prestige to Teacher's Achievement Award

Bangalore: The Teacher's Achievement awards, instituted by Allied Domecq Spirits, enters the fifth year this year.

These annual awards are aimed at recognising individual accomplishments, honouring excellence as well as inspiring others to scale new heights.

The awards recognise excellence in five categories — business, sports, communication, entertainment and teacher's lifetime achievement award.

The final nominees in the business category for this year are Capt. G.R. Gopinath, Managing Director, Air Deccan; Analjit Singh, Chairman, Max New York Life India; Sukhwinder Singh Prem, Managing Director, Reebok India; V.G. Sidhartha, Chairman, Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company, and Subir Raha, Chairman and Managing Director, ONGC.

A jury has been appointed to select a winner. The jury comprises Bharat Patel, Chairman, Procter and Gamble; Gita Piramal, Managing Editor, The Smart Manager; and S.M. Datta, Chairman of EID Parry. Allied Domecq Managing Director Harish Moolchandani said: "With each passing year, we have aimed at making Teacher's Achievement awards an aspiration and an ode to the invincible spirit of triumph.

"I am pleased that the awards have been successful in recognising individual talent in various spheres of life and have been able to influence others to strive for recognition."

The winners of the awards will be announced on November 26.

Feroz Khan, theatre director, producer and actor, was the first recipient of the award and Nagesh Kukunoor was the winner for the creative and performing arts category.

The winners of the third awards in 2003 were Naina Lal Kidwai (business), Shiamak Davar (entertainment), Mahesh Bhupati (sports), Vikram Chandra (communication), and Yash Chopra (outstanding achievement award). Last year, the winners were B.S. Nagesh (business), Shankar Ehsaan Loy (entertainment), Rahul Dravid and Lt. Col. R.S. Rathore (sports), Karan Thapar (communication) and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (lifetime achievement award).
