COIMBATORE: Despite cotton arrivals picking up, prices are ruling steady, according to K.N. Viswanathan, Secretary of South India Cotton Association. At the national level, cotton arrivals are now from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. It has just started from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka too. Over 90,000 bales arrived every day. Arrivals this year are about 30 per cent more compared to same period last year. Further, prices now are marginally high compared to two months ago. He pointed out that price of Shankar-6 variety was around Rs. 17,500 a candy (355 kg) for spot transactions. Textile mills had started placing orders after Deepavali. Another main reason for prices remaining steady were export orders.
