Fatally knocked down

TIRUCHI: In a hit-and-run case, Meenakshi (70) of Veedhivadangam was fatally knocked down by a speeding two-wheeler near Tiruverumbur, on Friday. Police said three persons travelling on the motorcycle were injured but they managed to escape.

Drunken driving

The city police on Thursday night booked 34 cases of drunken driving.

A sum of Rs. 17,500 was collected as fine.

Cash found stolen

A sum of Rs. 5,200 was reportedly stolen from a two-wheeler parked along the Madurai Road in Edamalaipattipudur limits. The complainant, Palanichamy, a supervisor in an agro food company, parked the vehicle by the road side and gone to ease himself when the theft occurred.

Students cautioned

Bharathidasan University has cautioned students against enrolling themselves for B.Ed. programme in institutions, which were yet to obtain affiliation.

In a statement, the Registrar, V. Radhakrishnan, urged students and parents to verify whether the institutions offering the course in the university jurisdictional area have got affiliation orders.

Mettur level

The water level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 120.15 ft on Friday. The inflow was 48,288 cusecs and the outflow 48,045 cusecs.
