BANGALORE: The driver and cleaner of a lorry were found murdered on National Highway-4 in Nelamangala police station limits in the early hours of Friday. Police suspect that the assailants could have robbed the two of cash. Police said that while the driver was found murdered inside the cabin of the vehicle bearing Tamil Nadu registration, the cleaner's body was found about 50 metres away from the vehicle on the highway, off Thippagondanahalli. The two were reportedly attacked with iron rods and they suffered head injuries. The police suspect that the incident could have taken place around midnight. While the driver was identified as Ramamurthy of Vellore in Tamil Nadu, the cleaner's identity is not known, police said. The Nelamangala police have registered a case.
Jewellery stolen
Jewellery worth Rs. 15 lakhs was reportedly stolen from a marble merchant's house in Adugodi police station limits. According to a complaint lodged by Rameshwara, a resident of Gupta Layout on Bannerghatta Road, he had decorated the Lakshmi idol in his house during Deepavali on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, he found the ornaments missing. Meanwhile, three employees of Rameshwara have reportedly gone missing and the police suspect that they could have made away the jewellery. The Adugodi police have registered a case.
Snatched
Two youths, riding on a motorcycle, snatched a mobile phone worth Rs. 5,000 from Momitha Chowdry, an MCA student, while she was walking on 18th Main, 9th Cross, 2nd Phase, J.P. Nagar, on Thursday. The police said Momitha was sending a message over the phone when the incident occurred. The J.P. Nagar police have registered a case. In another incident, two men, who came on a motorcycle, reportedly snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 15,000 from Baghya when she was walking in RBI Colony in Subramanyapura police station limits around 6.30 a.m. on Thursday.
Pirated VCDs seized
The Upparpet police on Thursday raided five shops in Gandhinagar and seized pirated VCDs and DVDs, together estimated at Rs. 5 lakhs. The police said the seized discs were of Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and English movies. The police arrested five persons on charges of trading in pirated discs. Their names were given as Soma (22) of Rajajinagar, Srikanth (20) of Yeshwanthapur, Madhu (30) of Vyalikaval and Surendra (24) and Chandru (22) of Puttenahalli.
Recovered
The Ulsoor police have arrested Venkatesh (31) of Mallathalli on charges of burglary and recovered from him 42 new mobile phones and two handy-cameras, together worth Rs. 2.8 lakhs. In another case, the Kengeri Gate sub-division police have arrested two youths on charges of theft and recovered from them 20 mobile phones, together worth Rs. 50,000. The names of the arrested were given as Amzad Ali (20) and Ansar (20), both residents of Gangondanahalli.
