BANGALORE: A team of doctors, including B.M. Mohan, Director of Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) and Malini, Assistant Director, subjected K.N. Sreenivasa, president of Viniv Inc group of companies, to narco analysis test on Friday. Viniv Inc group of companies is alleged to have cheated hundreds of investors of crores of rupees. The test on Sreenivasa alias Sreenivasa Shastry was carried out after getting the permission from a city court. The test was conducted for nearly four hours at the Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital. Police refused to divulge details about the test stating that it might hamper the investigation. A team of officials from the Central Crime Brach arrested Sreenivasa at Visakhapatnam on October 28. The police seized from him investment certificates worth Rs. 15 lakhs, Rs. 4,270 in cash, three cameras, a handicam, a palmtop and a laptop. Sreenivasa was trading online in NASDAQ shares. He had reportedly invested Rs. 4 lakhs in shares and earned Rs. 8 lakhs. Sreenivasa was earlier subject to polygraph test on Monday.
Narco analysis
The narco analysis is a scientific procedure to obtain information from an individual in a natural sleep-like state. The person is sent to such a state by intravenously administering thiopentone sodium, also known as `truth drug,' in an operation theatre of a hospital. In such sleep-like state efforts are made to obtain "probative truth" about the crime. According to procedure prescribed by the Directorate of Forensic Sciences, the narco analysis test is done by a team comprising of an anaesthesiologist, a psychiatrist, a clinical/ forensic psychologist, an audio-videographer, and supporting nursing staff. The forensic psychologist will prepare the report about the revelations, which will be accompanied by a compact disc of audio-video recordings. The strength of the revelations, if necessary, is further verified by subjecting the person to polygraph and brain mapping tests. A manual containing all the necessary procedures for conducting Narco Analysis and brain mapping tests were released by the Directorate at a function held recently in the city. The manual has been prepared to maintain uniformity in the procedure adopted in the tests, which were being increasing used by investigating agencies for solving criminal cases.
