Samithi wants foodgrains stock confiscated

Staff Correspondent

RAICHUR: Members of the Madiga Misalathi Horata Samithi district unit staged a dharna here on Saturday demanding that the district administration order an inquiry into the alleged storage of huge quantity of foodgrains at a private godown at Gudadalli village in Manvi taluk and book cases against the contractor concerned and the owner of the godown.

About 50 activists led by Ambanna Aroli, president of the samithi's district unit, staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office. They submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Tushar Girinath urging him to order an inquiry into the alleged storage of foodgrains.

In the memorandum, they said that last week, the samithi found out that 1,200 quintals of rice and 300 quintals of wheat were stored at a private godown at Gudadinni village, which were meant for the poor and to be utilised under the food-for-work scheme in Manvi taluk. The samithi found that Raghava Reddy, PDS contractor, had hoarded the foodgrains, and urged the police to seize the stock. But the police seized only 47 quintals of rice and 11 quintals of wheat at the godown, the protesters said.
