BIJAPUR: Farmers in Muddebihal and Basavanabagewadi taluks will take out a protest rally in Muddebihal on November 10 demanding compensation for sunflower crop loss owing to attack by caterpillars. A.S. Patil Nadahalli, president of the newly formed Suryakanthi Raitha Hitarakshana Vedike, said in a press release that though the issue was brought to the notice of the department concerned, it failed to act swiftly as a result of which pests destroyed sunflower crop worth Rs. 25 crores. Though the problem is severe, none of the public representatives have either visited the affected fields or pressed the Government to release compensation, he said. The Government should order a survey based on which it should evolve mechanisms to control pests, he added.
